Greenfibres

Greenfibres is about organic textiles. We offer clothing and bedding products that are an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional products. We use materials such as organic cotton, organic linen, organic wool, chemical free silk, and hemp, and ensure that the items are made under fair and safe working conditions.

We produce some of these organic textile products ourselves at our manufacturing facility just outside of Plymouth, and work with over 60 other suppliers in the UK and abroad to ensure that we can offer customers the most environmentally responsible garment without compromising on quality or style.

Greenfibres was started in 1996 by William and Gabriela Lana, who were concerned about how our consumption choices as individuals make such an impact on the environment and well-being of ourselves and others. The more research they did into the processes, conditions and consequences of conventional clothing manufacture and fibre production, the more obvious it became that there should be an ethical and healthy alternative.

The conventional textile industry is one of the most environmentally and socially polluting industries. Cotton uses 23% of all insecticide use every year, and up to 8,000 synthetic chemicals can be used in the processing of textiles, from “easy care” formaldehyde finishes to heavy metal deposits in some dyes. Each Greenfibres t-shirt has prevented 1/3 of a pound of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers from being dumped onto the earth’s soil.
